ABOUT PROBLEMS
Desertification
Vegetation is anyway very scarce in the island and it is not useless to remember
once more how important are plants for environment and for life. If we want
to stop desertification we must protect vegetation and we must furiously plant
again trees everywhere it is possible.
Waste
I have noticed that the solid waste management is still an unsolved problem.
A few Km from Chora there is an unchecked discharge in the coast side, where
rubbish is burned to reduce the volume of waste; I hope to be wrong but I suppose
this is the way followed everywhere in the island.
Dirty Water
I haven’t seen any system of depuration for polluted waters and I suppose
they are left in soil, in superficial waters or driven to the sea without any
previous treatment to reduce their charge of chemical and biological pollutants.
Agri-Chemicals
When we went to visit potatoes seeds lands, we have noticed the massive
use of chemicals, some of them not used anymore in most of european countries.
