ABOUT CULTURE

The culture of simple countryside workers is understimate, especially
since new technologies, chemicals and more effective systems allow farmers to
increase their productions.
We often forget that they know a lot about environment (animals, soil, water,
climate, cultures, vegetation, etc..) and that they live and produce in a very
responsible way. In a world where tecnology runs far more faster than human
culture and where „to be" means to be fast and to produce more an more, they
are probably considered the last, but in a more substaineble world they should
probably deserve to be included between the first.

The signs of the past bring again memories and traces of ancient civilisations. To protect and to preserve these signs is. at the same time, a duty towards cultural heritage of humanity and an important resource in a perspective of integrated development well-founded also in cultural tourism.
Water is life: a clever system to save it and to prevent erosion
and floods. We often see very complicated and sophisticated projects to keep
water and to prevent damages due to the force of water (most of the times public
works),projects wich need enormous costs, have a very heavy impact on the environment
and which sometimes get very poor results.
In this case a remarkable mixture of knowledge, agri-culture and wisdom, get
great results with a very light economical effort.

A clear example of renewable and substaineble tecnology. Naxos is a windy island as it’s shown by the presence of windmills near country villages,in the plain and in the mountains; their presence also give evidence of the importance of cereals culture since not long ago. Even if inactive they still show an important step of rural development.
